Warm two pasta bowls in the oven.
Drain and rinse the canned beans thoroughly. Chop the sage leaves finely. Chop the bacon.
Fry the chopped bacon in a wide saucepan until crisp. Drain and set bacon bits aside.
In the drained saucepan heat the olive oil, and cook onion and garlic until onion is tender and golden.
Remove from heat. Stir in chopped sage, beans, bacon bits, salt, and pepper; toss gently. Tip all into a 1-quart measuring cup. Cover and heat in an 1100-watt microwave oven at 70% power for 3 minutes 25 seconds.
Serve in bowls, with crusty bread.
