There is just enough lemon juice and sugar to tame the bitterness of black tea, without making the drink obviously sweet.

I would not use this recipe with green tea which is far less bitter.

Iced Tea

Make double-strength tea using the tea bags and water. In a 20-to-24-ounce jug mix the lemon juice and sugar with a metal spoon.

When the tea is brewed, pour it over the lemon juice/sugar mixture leaving the metal spoon in the jug to reduce the chance of cracking it. Stir to dissolve the sugar.

When the sugar is dissolved, add ice cubes to chill, and serve.
